choosing a size
Boxing gloves are not sized like clothing in small, medium, large, etc, but by the amount of padding measured in ounces. Ask your coach which size is best for you and your level of power. The amount of space inside the gloves does also get bigger as the ounces increase. If you are a small kid you may go for 4 oz, up to 8 oz. A good multi-purpose size for adults is 10-12 oz, but for sparring, you will need at least 14 or 16 oz.
During bag-work it’s critical I protect my hands from the cumulative impact of my punches, so I choose 16 oz boxing gloves. In the ring, I also need to protect my sparring partners from the same thing, so I go for 20 oz. Then it’s more like a pillow fight! Just joking… I hit hard!

QUALITY ISSUES
